In the powerful video message, Joan Cusco, holding a legacy match ball from the 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, featuring intricate Arab-inspired designs, begins warmly: “This is a message for our friends in UAE, in Dubai.”
Cusco recounts the origins of their collaboration: “In 2009, we organised a FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai. We created this ball, the first ball with an Arab printing on it.” Highlighting a particularly memorable moment, he adds: “And it was a superb moment since His Highness Sheikh Mohammed signed the ball for us… And it was such a prestige.”
Reflecting on the enduring relationship, the organiser continues: “From 2000 to last year, we have been organizing events in Dubai year after year. It has become the home of beach soccer. We have been treated in Dubai like nowhere in the world… In Dubai, we feel home… at its best, it’s in Dubai.”
